Beyond Saturation Past the Tale
is a limited artists' edition designed for belgian artist Sara Pessoa on the occasion of her graduation from the Dutch Art Institute's mastercourse. Pessoa is a painter who employs several over-painting techniques while drawing heavily on classic literary influences for her work. The concept for this publication was based on Vladimir Nabokov's notion of “poshlust”, a reoccurring theme in Pessoa’s work, defined as “Brutes, bores, class-conscious Philistines, Freud, Marx, fake thinkers, puffed-up poets, frauds and sharks.” from Nabokov's book entitled Pale Fire. The design concept samples from a classical book convention, which was literally xeroxed over with new layers of new content. The texts were sourced from features written on other artists having no relation to Pessoa. The color images were tipped in after printing adding yet another layer.
